I was born in the 1950’s in Lincolnshire, where I studied Art to A Level, then furthered my studies at teacher training college in the 1970’s.
Many ‘lean’ years followed in London whilst pursuing a banking career, but following a move to Devon in my 30’s I resumed painting, selling many pictures in a number of joint exhibitions with fellow artists, in Sidmouth, Exeter and Totnes. Three children then interrupted the flow, although I did manage to win a prize for ‘the most innovative work’ in my first exhibition with the Totnes Art Society in the midst of child-bearing.
I am now able to pursue my work more intensely, painting regularly with a group of local artists and continuing my development at workshops with fellow members of the Totnes Art Society.
My underlying passion is painting people, either in scenes or portraits, although I am happy to paint anything that attracts my interest. The subject usually suggests a medium and style which seems to vary from painting to painting. Hence the variety of styles.
Colour, shape, form and light all hold an equal fascination for me.
